PART THIRTY FOUR
Ollie Allgrove
Ollie Allgrove from Passion Pictures came in to Hurtwood to speak to the media students, giving them guidance and information about directing and creating a music video.
Passion Pictures is an animation and live-action production company created in 1987 with studios in London,
Melbourne,
Paris and New York.
The company's commercial and animation films, including the Cartoon Network animated identity, the Gorillaz music videos and the Compare the Market.comcommercial campaign featuring Aleksandr Orlov (meerkat), have been the main successes of Passion Pictures.
The Gorillaz music video was a huge risk for Passion Pictures as it was the first official animated music video that had ver been released. It unexpectedly became one of the top selling music videos of the year.
Ollie Allgrove, being an executive producer, offers visual voice, as well as offering a creative point of view.
He explained how a music video is categorised. currently, it doesn't matter the number of times a track is sold on iTunes, because the emergence and progression of technology means that the majority of people stream their music on Spotify and YouTube. So music videos can be categorised by it's number of YouTube views because YouTube is more accessible for people than iTunes.
From a music video, Ollie told us that an artist wants noise, impact, hits and controversy.
THE TREATMENT
'DON'T FIX IT IN THE POST'. Plan everything before and don't adjust it all in the edit.
Need to make a plan from start to finish, How do we want the band to look, their style and the style of the music video and the song.
If so, what are they doing and what are they wearing? etc.
Everything should be organised by the time of the shoot and editing is just linking the image with the track to give the audience a song in a visual form.
