Evaluation Task 4: The Digipak

EVALUATION TASK FOUR

THE DIGIPAK:

Pre Production: Indie-Rock Album Artwork Conventions.

We looked at popular indie-rock bands in order to compare ours to successful digipak products. We used our Apple Mac hardware and the software google to search bands like 'Arctic Monkeys', 'the Kooks' and 'Foster The people'. Google was helpful to easily access all areas of media which we wanted to quickly and efficiently.

Production:
To produce the album artwork, we used many different softwares. One of them was iDraw, where we edited the hand drawing of the album artwork after scanning it. iDraw was essential in manipulating the original sketch and creating a piece of album artwork which fitted out indie-rock theme and looked precise and finished.
We used Drawing Tablet, which is a piece of hardware that connect to your computer, and with the help of an app (software) can sketch digital masterpieces.
Together, our group decided to have an entirely drawn/sketched digipak using stills from our music video as inspiration. This was in order to fit our target audience. We thought that the naturalistic approach to an indie rock band would stand out to potential buyers without straying too far away from the typical conventions of regular indie-rock covers.

Post-Production:

The majority of our Album Artwork was worked on using Photoshop. It meant we could easily touch up and enhance our album images. Photoshop proved easy to use and made the final image look professional. Because our album artwork was mostly black and white themed, we wanted to bring up the contrasts to create a strong juxtaposition between the two colours.
