Evaluation Task One

PART SEVENTY EIGHT

For Evaluation Task 1, I've created a presentation in order to convey the real media products we used as a comparison of Indie-rock conventions during the making of our own three products. Below is my comparative presentation and the three real media products I used:

Music Video - Editing:

Editing was crucial for our music video because it is where we can convey a certain (indie-rock) style and narrative structure. By cutting the video clips to the beat of the song, the pace at which they were cut helped to support our indie-rock genre. For example, during the chorus, to convey the fast pace rock sound through image, we cut the clips extremely quickly.
Like Foster The People's music video for 'pumped up kicks', we colour graded our video in post-production. This is because, having a simplistic and authentic set which was full of rural woodland areas, we could portray an organic feel to the video without having built the set in a specific artificial way. It makes the audience feel as if what they see if what they get and that everything which was filmed was real, honest and showed an organic band, not a manufactured one. The post-production grading was just to slightly increase the contrast of the video to make the colours more appealing but in a way which did not lose the authentic feel of the music video.
Subverting stereotypes and conventions of artificial pop bands, by using indie-rock genre conventions, we edited each band member in a way which gave them equal airtime. Although we had a clear main singer, we edited each member of the band playing their instruments on their own at the beginning to show that they are real musicians and all play an important part in the band's success. Additionally, as the middle section of the song played, we edited the footage of the ban in the woods together. The shots were specifically shown them as a united group rather than solo shots as we felt that giving them airtime where they are spending time together gives them an organic feel and creates the group dynamic as one of honesty and shows the audience that not only are they close friends for the camera, but the way the footage is shot with handheld, that they are also really close friends off camera too.

'TEDDY PICKER' - ARCTIC MONKEYS

'PUMPED UP KICKS' - FOSTER THE PEOPLE

'AWAY FRM U' - NOTHING TO KINGS (OUR MUSIC VIDEO)
